One of the
responsibilities of the Academy Student Council is community
service. In the past, the Academy students have not only
helped people in local communities, but also on the other side of
the world with the Tsunami victims, cancer patients, and the victims
of
Hurricane Katrina, Haiti earthquake, clothing drive for Philippines
flood victims and more.
Some of the events
sponsored by the 2009-2010 Student Council included a successful
Holiday
Food Drive. The many boxes
of food were donated to diocesan food pantries and soup kitchens
through the Food Network.
From November thru February
the student council performed a penny drive raising over $1,000 for
the schools education clubs.
October 23rd, 2009 hosted a
"Hats on Day" fund raiser donating all the proceeds to the
Children's Cancer Foundation.
They also hosted a
"Breakfast with Santa" for the youngest members of the school:
Pre-K, Kindergarten, and Grade 1. The children ate a breakfast
of french toast sticks, milk and juice before Santa arrived. Each
student was given a small gift from Santa.
The Student Council
arranged for the school to draw Earth Day messages on grocery bags
that will be distributed by a local supermarket on Earth Day to
remind shoppers of the importance of taking care of our planet.
Over the years, the Academy
Student Council has performed many humanitarian functions to help
those alone or in need locally as well as around the globe. The
student council has performed fund raisers, food and clothing drives
as well as various feel good initiatives to contribute to disaster
relief victims, the homeless, sick, children in need and the
elderly.
The Saints Mary and Elizabeth
Student Council has been diligent throughout the years in helping
their local community and those abroad. We would like to thank all
those who have been members and helped throughout the years for
their hard work, sacrifice and contributions to help others.
Keep up the work and may God
bless their hearts.
